Posted: 23 Feb 2011 05:46 AM PST

Mobile phone uses emerges to have an effect on brain activity, enhancing the metabolism of brain glucose in definite areas, but does it matter to everyone?

A study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States, recommend that mobile phones could have an effect on the brain. They stated higher sugar use in the brain, a sign of amplified activity after 50 minutes on the mobile phone can associate with increased brain metabolism in the area close to the phone antenna.

But, the finding is of strange clinical significance, a study in the Feb 23 issue of JAMA. Whether it is something to be worried about or not remains to be seen.

National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse, director Nora Volkow stated that “We don’t know that this is harmful,”

The major study on 420,000 mobile phone users in Denmark has not exposed a link between phone use and cancer. This minor study on 47 people inspected the cause of magnetic fields upcoming from a phone’s antenna.

It recommends that brain activity is affected, but cannot sketch any conclusions with reference to possible health implications.

Further studies are required to judge, if these things could have possible long term unsafe consequences. If so, this might have effects on other organs, leading to unwanted physiological responses in the human body.
