Brazil Driver tries to kill Cyclists in Porto Alegre

A passive mass ride in the southern city of Porto Alegre, in eastern Brazil turned into incredible much nastier. When a man accused of driving his car at high speed through a group of 130 riders, hitting 20 of them and injuring at least 12 of them.

The film of the incident was frightening, when a black VW Golf, which according to some witnesses had been following the ride for some time, suddenly accelerates through the middle of the group of over 100 riders with predictably horrible results. The bikes and riders flying through the air as other cyclists scream in panic.

The cyclists were holding a regular event to promote the use of bikes.

However, No-one was killed in the incident and all of the injured were later on discharged from hospital.

The driver, Ricardo Neis, 47, fled the scene of the occurrence, but was brought in for questioning after his discarded car was found. Ricardo stated that, he speed up because cyclists were banging on his car and he was panic he would be attacked by them.

While local cyclists have called for the driver to be charged with attempted murder.

According to Porto Alegre’s Police Chief, Gilberto Montenegro it is not yet likely to say if the car driver planned to run over the cyclists. If that intent is confirmed, then driver may well face a charge of attempted murder.
