India and Sri Lanka For Final Battle Of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

With the glorious outstanding performance of the India against Pakistan in the semi-finals has paved the path to the finals against Sri Lanka of the ICC World Cup 2011 on 2nd April at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. These are the only teams who have hosted and reached the finals for the first time. India has won the World Cup in 1983 and Sri Lanka has won the World cup during 1996.

According to the statistics figures between the matches of India and Sri Lanka, both teams faced each other for seventeen finals. However, India has been champions on seven occasions while Sri Lanka was victorious for eight times. The remaining two have no result which the final match was played twice during 2002 Champions Trophy. Coming to the records of the World Cup, Sri Lanka has reached twice in the finals during 1996 and 2007 against one opponent, Australia. India has reached the World Cup finals twice during 1983 and 2003 against West Indies and Australia where they succeeded only in 1983.

Coming to the player's figures of the Indian team against Sri Lanka, the answer will be no other man than Sachin Tendulkar. He scored 360 runs in 5 innings; he played and has also included two hundreds and a fifty. Regarding the past figures, India has lost only three matches out of eight when Sachin was in the team and the legend has scored two fifties in these three matches. But considering the overall figures, it is Tendulkar who scored 499 runs in nine innings with an average of 62.37 which also included two hundreds and three fifties. In the second place, it is Dhoni who scored 231 runs in six innings including two fifties. The second comes former captain Mohammad Azharuddin with 275 runs in six innings followed by Mahendra Singh Dhoni with 231 runs in six innings.

Getting the past records of the players of Sri Lanka who has scored a good number of runs against India, it was Sanath Jayasuriya who scored 728 runs in thirteen innings and has two hundreds and four half centuries including his ODI highest score of 189 runs. The next batsmen was Mahela Jayawardene who played eleven innings and scored 366 runs with four half centuries. He was followed by Sangakkara and Dilshan who scored 329 runs and 286 runs respectively.

The bowling attack of India also seems to be little lower than Sri Lanka. Harbhajan Singh leads in the India bowling department who played 9 matches and has taken 15 wickets including a five wicket haul. He is followed by Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan who has taken 13 wickets in seven matches and seven wickets in 8 matches respectively.

Sri Lanka was little higher than in taking the wickets. Chaminda Vaas has taken 18 wickets in 10 matches including a five wicket haul followed by Muttiah Muralitharan who took ten wickets in 11 matches. He was followed by Ajantha Mendis who has taken seven wickets in two matches.

The upcoming milestones that may occur during the final match between India and Sri Lanka of the ICC World Cup 2011 are five in the list. The main record that everyone in the world is looking for is the Sachin Tendulkar's hundred centuries in international cricket which he achieves if he scores a century against Sri Lanka. Virat Kholi is 81 runs shortage to score 2000 runs against the Lankans. Zaheer Khan needs two more wickets to be the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup 2011 tournament. Besides this, Muralitharan needs three more wickets to be the highest wicket-taker in the World Cups equaling Glenn McGrath. Last, but not the least is the battle between the highest scorer of the tournament which is being altering between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sachin Tendulkar where Sachin is just three runs shortage of him.
