David Cameron reacts to Archbishop of Canterbury

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 05:29 AM PDT

David Cameron said that, he strongly disagrees with Dr Rowan Williams’s comments of that the Government was forcing through radical policies for which no one voted.

The Work and Pensions Secretary, Iain Duncan Smith whose polices were criticized from the Archbishop, said the comments were unbalanced and unfair and Tory MPs quoted remarks as unacceptable and ill-judged. Roman Catholic counterpart, Williams’s speech at the Archbishop of Westminster, was warm support of Mr Cameron’s policies.

Dr Williams was supposed to be in a positive mood as his associates suggested that the Prime Minister might be less unapproachable in his relations with the Church in future. In his comments, which was first published yesterday in daily news paper; Dr Williams dismissed Mr Cameron’s ‘big Society’ initiative as a painfully stale slogan.

Mr Cameron stated that the Archbishop was free to express his views, but added that what he would say is that Cameron strongly disagrees with many of the views that Williams has expressed, particularly on issues like debt and welfare and education.

The Prime Minister said the Government was acting in a good and moral way, where they defended the Big Society and the Coalition’s deficit reduction, welfare and education plans. He a absolutely convinced by the debate.

Tory legislators were less undemonstrative. Roger Gale claimed that Dr Williams clearly does not understand the democratic process. Williams as an unelected primate who was appointed for the upper house has no right to criticize government as undemocratic.

Archbishop has got the support from within the Church and senior members of the Labour Party, who claimed he had expressed the fears of many in the wider public.
